Azerbaijan and Montenegro

BILATERAL RELATIONS

Azerbaijan recognized the independence of Montenegro on July 24, 2006.  Protocol on establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on April 24, 2008.

In 2006 during his visit to Germany President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic.

On October 6, 2010 Azerbaijan’s first Ambassador to Montenegro Eldar Hasanov sworn in as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with credentials to President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic.

On November 25-26, 2010 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Milan Rocen paid official visit to Azerbaijan. 

 

On September 14, 2011 Ambassador of Montenegro to Azerbaijan Ramo Bralic sworn in as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with credentials to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

On May 4-5, 2011 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov paid an official visit to Montenegro

On July 17-21, 2011 head of the department of the State Investment Fund and advisor of the minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan paid visit to Montenegro to explore opportunities for cooperation in the economic field.

On September 15-17, 2011 President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic paid first official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. During visit he met with President, Prime minister and speaker of parliament of Azerbaijan. During the visit, sides praised the existing political dialogue and agreed to develop bilateral cooperation in the fields of economic, promoting of investing, transport and energy.

On November 6-7, 2011 Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev paid official visit to Montenegro and met with President of Montenegro Filip Vuyanovic, Prime minister Iqor Luksich, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rochen, Minister of Economy Vladimir Kavaric and major of the Bar city Jarko Pavichevic.

On December 21-23, 2011 Head of Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs Milan Rocen paid working visit to Azerbaijan to attend the international conference on "Modernization policy: new economic and social challenges".

 

On May 20, 2012 Prime Minister of Montenegro Igor Luksic met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Chicago. The sides expressed satisfaction with development of relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of further development of these relations.

On April 24, 2012 Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in Montenegro.

On June 28 – July 2, 2012 President of Montenegro F.Vuyanovic paid working visit to Azerbaijan to participate at the Crans Montana Forum held in Baku.

On July 15-17, 2012 Prime Minister of Montenegro Iqor Luksic paid his first official visit to Azerbaijan. During visit he met with President, Deputy Prime minister, Chairman of the parliament and Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan.

 

On March 12, 2013 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid his first official visit to Montenegro. During visit he met with the President of Montenegro Filip Vuyanovic, Chairman of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapic and Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic. During the visit 4 document were signed between two states.

On December 3, 2013, the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro opened in Azerbaijan. Vugar Aliyev was appointed as Honorary Consul.

On December 15-17, 2013 President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic paid a visit to Azerbaijan in order to participate in the signing of the final investment decision on "Shah Deniz-2" 

 

On March 5, 2014, in Podgorica, Azerbaijan and Montenegro had the first meeting of intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. From the Azerbaijani government co-chairman was Minister of Economic Development and Industry Shahin Mustafayev. During the visit, Shahin Mustafayev and his delegation were received by President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, Speaker of Parliament Ranko Krivokapic, Minister of Economy Vladimir Kavaric, Minister of Finance Radoy Juqic. At the same date Montenegro – Azerbaijan business forum was organized by AZPROMO and Montenegro Chamber of Commerce. 30 Azerbaijani companies operating in the area of food industry, agriculture, construction, energy and tourism participated at forum. 100 businessmen participated from both sides.

On April 14-17, 2014 Chairman of the Parliament of Montenegro and at the same time chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Ranko Krivokapic paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the visit R.Krivokapic met with Chairman of Parliament of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev and other officials.

On September 17-20, 2014 Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the visit he participated at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Southern Gas Corridor.

On November 26-29, 2014 delegation led by Head of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farkhad Abdullayev paid a visit to Podgorica in order to attend an international judicial conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro.

 

From March 18, 2015 The citizens of Azerbaijan may enter, pass through and stay in Montenegro for up to 90 days with a valid passport without a visa,.

On March 28, 2015 Ambassador of Montenegro to Azerbaijan Branko Milic sworn in as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with credentials to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

On May 18-20, 2015, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Montenegro, and chairman of the inter-parliamentary friendship group Azerbaijan-Montenegro Sulyo Mustafic and Minister of Science of Montenegro Saniya Vlahovic visited Azerbaijan to attend the  3rd Intercultural Forum.

On June 12, 2015 the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic visited Baku to attend the opening ceremony of the first European Games. During the visit President Ilham Aliyev met with President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic.

On July 10, 2015 Director General for Bilateral Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro, Ambassador Lilyana Toskovic paid a visit to Azerbaijan to participate the international conference on "Public administration reform, capacity building process"  held in Baku.

On October 1-3, 2015 chairman of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro Desenka Lopicic paid a visit to Azerbaijan to attend the conference dedicated on twenty-year anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court in Azerbaijan.

On October 27-28, 2015 Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the visit Milo Djukanovic met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov, Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev, President of SOCAR R.Abdullayev.

 

On 29 feburary – 1 march 2016 Minister of Economy Vladimir Kavaric (Co-Chair of the Joint Commission on economic cooperation with Azerbaijan) and Deputy Minister of Economy (Director General of Directorate General of Industry and Entrepreneurship) Dragan Kuyovic visited Azerbaijan to attend the second meeting of the Advisory Council of the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor.

On March 9, 2016, the President of the Republic of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic paid visit to Azerbaijan to participate at fourth Global Baku Forum. During the visit, he met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

On May 20-22, 2016 parliamentary delegation led by speaker of the parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan Oqtay Asadov paid visit to Podgorica to participate in the events related to the 10th anniversary of the regaining of independence of Montenegro. During the visit, Oqtay Asadov met with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic. During the meeting, the speaker of the parliament celebrated Montenegrin government and friendly nation of Montenegro on the occasion of Independence Day on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as well as on behalf of the Azerbaijani people.

On June 23-26 delegation led by Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev paid an official visit to Montenegro. During his visit, R. Rzayev met with Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, Deputy Prime Minister Dusko Markovic, head of the Supreme Court Vesna Medenisa and the chairman of the Judicial Council Mladen Vudchevic.

On October 5-7, 2016, the delegation led by Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors Vahid Novruzov attended an event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Montenegro Institute of Accountants and Auditors in Podgorica, Montenegro.

 

On 22-24 February 2017, Montenegrin Economy Minister Dragiça Sekuliich visited Azerbaijan to attend the third meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council.

On March 14-19, 2017, President of Montenegro Mr. Filip Vujanovic visited Azerbaijan to attend the 5th meeting of the Baku Global Forum. During the visit Filip Vujanovic met with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

On 26-28 April 2017, Chief of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Nabiyev paid an official visit to Montenegro. During the visit "Agreement on readmission of persons without citizenship between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was signed.

On May 5-6, 2017, Montenegro's Culture Minister Yanko Lumovich attended the Fourth World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku

On July 4-6, 2017, Montenegro's minister of Ministry of Public Administration Suzana Pribilovic paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the visit, Minister S.Pribilovic met with Inam Karimov, Chairman of the State Agency for Citizens Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On August 21-24, 2017, the daughter of President of Montenegro Mr Filip Vujanović, Nina Vujanovic, attended the Global Young Leaders Forum in Baku.

On 25-29 September 2017, the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, Vesna Medenica, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. The delegation included the spouse of the President of Montenegro, the judge of the Supreme Court Svetlana Vujanovic.

On 01-03 November 2017, Minister of Foreign affairs of Montenegro Mr.Srcan Darmanovich paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

On 3-4 December 2017, Delegation of the State Agency for Citizens Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited Montenegro

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovation of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Public Administration of Montenegro.
